PAPERHEAD launched October 9, 2026. It is developed by Paperhead te4m and published by HypeTrain Digital. The game was originally scheduled for September 18, 2026 and was delayed three weeks for polish, per the official Steam community post in July 2026.
The delay that moved launch to October 9
PAPERHEAD's date was first revealed on June 2, 2026, when HypeTrain Digital and Paperhead te4m confirmed a September 18 launch for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The console announcement came alongside that date reveal, which is also when the simultaneous multi-platform launch was locked in.
On July 2, 2026, the team announced a three-week delay to October 9, 2026, citing the need for extra polish. The announcement went out through the official Steam community page. The game then launched on the revised date with no further slips. Before launch, the free EP.0 prologue was pulled from Steam on September 24, and the Steam Next Fest demo listing was removed on October 8, both standard pre-launch cleanup moves.
When PAPERHEAD unlocked on each platform
On Steam, PAPERHEAD unlocked October 9, 2026 at 19:00 UTC, according to SteamDB. That converts to 12:00 PM PDT and 3:00 PM EDT on October 9, and 3:00 AM Beijing time on October 10. There was no early access window and no pre-load early unlock. The publisher never announced an early access period, and no early unlock appeared on Steam, so October 9 is the earliest playable day for everyone.
On Xbox, the store listed October 9, 2026 as the release date on both the standard and Deluxe Edition pages, and the game went purchasable that day. On PlayStation, the PS5 version launched the same day. All three platforms launched together, matching the simultaneous release the publisher announced in June.
Platforms
PAPERHEAD launched on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on the same day. Two platform details worth knowing came out of the Xbox listing. First, the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere, which means a single digital purchase covers both Xbox Series X|S and the Windows PC version through the Xbox store. Second, the Xbox capabilities list includes Xbox Cloud Gaming, single player, and optimization for Xbox Series X|S. There is no Nintendo Switch version announced.
Editions and prices
On Xbox, the standard edition costs $19.99 and the Deluxe Edition costs $24.99 (the $15.99 pre-order price ended at launch); the SUPPORTER PACK is $7.99 standalone. On Steam, the standard edition costs $19.99 with a 20% introductory offer at $15.99 until October 23, 2026. Prices verified October 10, 2026 against xbox.com and store.steampowered.com. Early Xbox store rating: 4.2/5 (8 reviews as of Oct 10).
The Deluxe Edition on Xbox bundles the base game with the SUPPORTER PACK. Buying the SUPPORTER PACK on its own costs $7.99. The exact contents of the supporter pack beyond its name are UNVERIFIED from the store pages we checked, so treat it as a tip-jar style DLC unless the publisher details it further.
Steam also lists two launch bundles. The PAPERHEAD x ULTRAKILL bundle pairs the game with ULTRAKILL at 8% off, $41.38 instead of $44.98. The SULFUR x PAPERHEAD bundle pairs it with SULFUR at 42% off, $23.38 instead of $40.48. Seven bundles are listed on the Steam page in total. Third-party key sellers carry the game as well; Green Man Gaming lists a Steam key at $14.07 as of October 10, though regional activation restrictions apply with any key reseller, so check before buying outside Steam.
The PlayStation Store price for the PS5 version is UNVERIFIED as of October 10, 2026. We have not confirmed a PS5 price from an official listing yet.
Prices change fast around launch. The numbers above reflect xbox.com and the Steam store on October 10, 2026. Check the store page before you buy.
Steam Deck status
PAPERHEAD is Steam Deck Verified. SteamDB records the verification test as passed on June 2, 2026. That means Valve tested it on Deck hardware and it passed their compatibility checks. The SteamDB entry also notes full controller support and SteamOS compatibility, so the game is a reasonable pick if the Deck is your main machine.
System requirements
The listed requirements are light, which fits a small-team indie release. The store listing via authorized retailer Green Man Gaming shows a minimum of Windows 7 64-bit, 2 GB of RAM, a GeForce 9800GT or equivalent, and 2 GB of disk space, with a recommended spec of Windows 10 64-bit, a 2.4 GHz quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 460. These figures come from the retailer's listing rather than a spec sheet we pulled directly from Steam, so treat them as indicative.
Early reception snapshot
SteamDB recorded an early Steam review score of 95% positive shortly after launch. That number comes from a small pool of day-one reviews and will move as more players weigh in, so read it as a first signal rather than a settled verdict. The Xbox store showed 4.2 out of 5 from 8 reviews on October 10. No Metacritic score existed at launch.
